Samsung’s Galaxy S II smartphone was unquestionably one of the highlights of this year’s Mobile World Congress, and there seems a chance we’ll be seeing it on the shelves sooner than we expected.
Several online retailers are now offering the Galaxy S II on pre-order, but while there seems to be a general consensus on price, predicted launch date is another matter.
Currently the most optimistic of all is Play.com, where the launch date is listed as March 31. It’s also the cheapest at the moment, with a SIM-free price of £599 quoted for the 16GB model.
Head over to Clove, meanwhile, and you’ll be asked to pay £612 for the same handset, but the site is hedging its bets on a launch date, saying simply that the Galaxy S II it’s expected in “Q2 2011”.
Expansys seems to be the party-pooper right now, asking for £629 of your hard-earned and claiming you’ll have to wait all the way until June 20. Interestingly, though, that date has changed from April 18 over the past few days, so maybe Expansys knows something the rest of us don’t.
It seems we’ll have to keep an eye on this one, as the goalposts seem to be moving on almost a daily basis. Whenever it arrives, though, the Galaxy S II should be more than a match for just about anything else on the market.
