Play.com is offering a SIM-free unlocked Galaxy II S smartphone to pre-ordering customers for £599.99.
The handset will be sent out from 31 March according to the retailer and is on sale for some £50 less than the recommended price, which of course is usually spread over and added to your average 18-24 month phone contract.
The handset was first mentioned last November and made an appearance at Mobile World Congress earlier this month. Play.com said that it runs the android Gingerbread operating system and has a number of user-friendly features such as a large 4.27-inch WVGA 480 x 800 Super AMOLED screen and an 8MP camera with LED flash. The latter feature was a notable omission from the current model.
Also on board are a Samsung dual core 1.2Ghz processor, a quad cor GPU, near-field communications networking software and 16GB of storage.
The INQUIRER reported in November that Samsung would launch the phone this month, however its UK website's product pages do not include mention of the handset, nor details of its specifications. Samsung does have a Facebook page that showcases the phone, however.
Those mobile phone providers that intend to sell the handset, including Vodafone, have it as 'coming soon'
